OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT

For the most part I grew up in warehouses.  The family business was exporting oilfield equipment, and pretty much everyone worked in the family business and did it all, from bidding and quoting to export documentation to crating and loading.  During college I spent part of my time at the original warehouse for 99¢ Only Stores.  After college I joined EGL (later CEVA Logistics) through their Leadership Development Program and worked my way through a couple supervisory positions and became an Operations Manager.  I later held the same title with Snak King and Performance Team.

OPERATIONS = heartbeat

Operations spans the gamut.  Whether you're talking about customer-facing functions like customer service or back-end functions like warehousing, operations is what makes a company tick.  I have spent my time in most all of those disciplines at one point or another.

customer service

The most important interaction a company has is with its customers.  I have worked in centers providing customer service in support of  various industries ranging from publishing to telecommunications to logistics.

Among work I have done in customer service, I have:

  • Supervised tracking & tracing teams for 24/7 logistics operations
  • Planned, staffed, trained, launched, and managed Regional Service Center to manage all regional customers

Logistics is an industry that has a wide breadth of products.  Because of this, I've had the opportunity to experience a great deal.  From day to graveyard shifts on warehouse floors, to inbound and outbound planning, I've held various positions within operations, including:

  • Outbound Operations Supervisor
  • Routing & Booking Supervisor
  • Container Freight Station Supervisor
  • Domestic Operations Manager
  • Warehouse Manager
  • Senior Operations Manager

process IMPROVEMENT

Arguably my favorite task in my work history has been working on improving processes.  I spent time deploying LEAN throughout operations, as well as oversaw various Continuous Improvement projects without office and warehouse settings.

  • Visual container loading area to reduce loading time and damages, while increasing space utilization
  • Developed inbound visibility & routing tool for breakbulk cargo
  • Spot quote tracking tool to monitor quotes from carriers and analytics
  • Material and document flow analysis to increase efficiency
